How to Make Butter Pie Crust

A traditional all-butter pie crust only needs three simple ingredients – butter, flour and ice cold water. Add these together with a pinch of salt for a rich and flaky pie crust perfect for all your favorite pies.

– 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon salt – 1 cup unsalted butter – 1/2 cup ice-cold water

Step 1

Add cold cubed butter to flour with a pinch of salt.

Step 2

Use a pastry blender to work butter into pea-sized pieces.

Step 3

Add ice water a little at a time until dough is shaggy.

Step 4

Dump dough onto a floured surface.

Step 5

Work the dough just enough to form two tight balls. Chill at least 2 hours.

Step 6

Use a rolling pin to roll dough out on a floured surface.

Step 7

Wrap the pie crust around your rolling pin to transfer it.

Step 8

Put the pie crust over your pie pan and push it down gently.

Step 9

Fold the excess dough under and use your fingers to flute the edges of the pie crust.

Step 9

Chill the pie crust until ready to use.

Step 10

Make your favorite pie and bake as directed in the recipe!
