Thumbprint Cookies With Icing

Thumbprint cookies are perfect for the holiday season. One of our favorite cookies for Christmas, this easy recipe is great for kids to help make and decorate.

ingredients

For the cookies – 1 cup unsalted butter softened – ⅔ cup white sugar – 1 egg yolk – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon almond extract – 2 ¼ cups all purpose flour – 2 teaspoons cornstarch – ½ teaspoon salt For the icing – 1 cup powdered sugar – ½ teaspoon vanilla extract – 2-3 tablespoons half and half

Step 1

Gather the cookie ingredients.

Step 2

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg, vanilla and almond extract.

Step 3

Add the dry ingredients and mix to combine.

Step 4

Roll the dough into  1 inch balls.

Step 5

Make a small indentation in the center of each cookie. Freeze for 30 mins.

Step 6

Bake at 375 degrees F for 12 mins, until bottom of cookies are golden brown.

Step 7

Gather the icing ingredients.

Step 8

Mix powdered sugar, milk and vanilla until icing is smooth and drizzly.

Step 9

Fill cookies with icing and decorate with sprinkles
